Grocery stores are one of the places where we use rounding numbers in daily life. For example, if we want to buy 1.5 kg of oranges and the price per kilogram is 4 TL, we can round this number to 2 kg and pay 8 TL. Similarly, if we want to buy 0.75 liters of milk and the price per liter is 2.5 TL, we can round this number to 1 liter and pay 2.5 TL.
Gas Station
Gas stations are also places where we frequently use rounding numbers. For instance, if the price per liter of gasoline is 6 TL and we want to buy 20 liters, we can round this number to 20.5 or 21 liters and pay 120 TL or 126 TL respectively. Moreover, if our car’s fuel tank has a capacity of 50 liters and we want to fill it up, we can round the amount of gasoline we pump to the nearest 5 liters and pay accordingly.
Bank
When we deposit or withdraw money from a bank, we often deal with rounding numbers. For example, if we deposit 1,250 TL into our account and the interest rate is 1.5%, we can round this number to 1,300 TL and earn 19.5 TL interest in a year. Similarly, if we withdraw 300 TL from an ATM and the withdrawal fee is 2 TL per transaction, we can round this number to 302 TL and pay 2 TL fee.
Pharmacy
Pharmacies are another example of places where we use rounding numbers. If we want to buy a medication that costs 6.75 TL per pill and we need to take 3 pills a day for 10 days, we can round this number to 20 pills and pay 135 TL. Moreover, if we want to buy a sunscreen lotion that has a price of 17.5 TL per 100 ml and we need 150 ml, we can round this number to 200 ml and pay 35 TL.
As we have seen, rounding numbers is a common practice in our daily lives. It helps us make quick decisions and simplifies our calculations.
